We were contacted by a customer in Lymm, Cheshire, who has a lovely conservatory at the rear of the kitchen. It has lovely views out over a field, but it catches the sun for most of the day so on a bright day it is difficult to use the room, especially mid morning. The more pressing issue was that it ranged from freezing cold in the winter months, to boiling hot in the summer!
Fitting Custom Conservatory Blinds
Therefore the requirement was for a blind type that would reduce the glare but allowing natural light through, and to insulate in the winter and reflect heat in the summer.
Our first thought was for perfect fit roof blinds, but unfortunately the seals were too tight to allow these to fit. Therefore, we looked at tension pleated blinds that could be screwed into the frames to allow the high tension blinds to be fitted securely. These can then be opened and closed using a pole to slide up and down when required.
The next decision was the fabric. We settled on a cellular fabric rather than a single layer pleated and this would have better insulation properties, and reflect the heat better in summer. We also settled on a mid grey as this is neutral and is dark enough to cut the glare. The result was fantastic:
