Being in the midst of Euro 2016, it’s more than likely that your child is watching the tournament with wonder in their eyes about being there one day. Football is the most popular sport on the planet and nearly every child has the dream of scoring for their favourite team when they’re older.
It’s this dream that makes kids want to surround themselves with Football, and what better way to inspire them than to decorate their bedroom taking inspiration from the beautiful game? Here’s 4 bedroom-altering tactics to help you score a screamer with your youngster.
Don Your Colours
If your child enjoys Football then it’s most likely that they’ll have a favourite team. You should look to base the colour scheme around that team so to not upset them when you accidentally choose a rivals colour.
For example, if they’re a Liverpool fan then the main colours will be Red and White or Blue and white for Everton fans. To find the primary colours for that team, all you need to do is look at their home kit for the current season, or even the team’s badge.
Your child may not be a diehard fan to an English team just yet, and may just like Football in general. I know many young children idolise foreign teams like Paris Saint Germain or Real Madrid just as much as they would their family’s team. This opens up more options for colours for their room, such as blue and maroon for Barcelona allowing you to mix it up a bit.
Give Them an Idol
Remember being a child and seeing someone who you completely idolised? You wanted to be just like them, that’s what it’s like for most young boys with Footballers. Players like Messi, Ronaldo, Suarez and Gerrard are all household names and pretty much God-like to every kid with Football on his mind.
So, why not put those aspirations in their own room? Posters of footballers are a great idea to help your children keep working on their dream; it’ll stick in their mind “if they can do it, then so can I”. You could go a step further and do a whole wall dedicated to their favourite players.
Before you do this though, make sure their favourite players are actually their favourites. I’m sure you know how fast their opinions can change and they might be pretty upset if last week’s favourite player is still on the wall.
Play the Ball
It’s all well and good incorporating all these colours and footballers, but what’s a footballer without a ball? Dotting Footballs around the room in different ways will keep your child happy and remind them of the sport that they aspire to. You could have Football themed toy boxes to keep the room spacious so they can practice their footwork, and why not add a football themed bean bag for them to relax whilst they watch the Euros?
You should also consider having football themed blinds; you have two options here, one of them is to choose the blinds based on the team that they support. That could be through choosing a simple block colour design, stripes of their two primary colours or even the crest of the club across the blinds so they can proudly sport their colours to the outside world. The other option you have is to have blinds with a pattern of a classic black and white Football to keep things neutral.
Put Down a Pitch
A pricey option, but one that seems to be growing in popularity due to the sheer happiness it can bring to your child. So, bear with me on this one because it could be a match winning decision.
A football themed bedroom could be complete with the addition of a pitch themed floor. Adding a green carpet with white lining in between can give the room a genuine authentic feel and fuel your child’s imagination of someday playing on a pitch. You could even add wall paintings of a crowd in stands as a border to give them something to practice their celebrations to.
Inspire Your Youth Squad
Fuelling your child’s imagination is crucial, and the euros could be the perfect time to do just that whilst Football fanaticism is at a major high point. Just make sure they don’t sneak a football in their room and trash it trying to curl one in the top corner.
